The Northwest River Trail is a 14-mile-long recreational trail along the Susquehanna River. The trail spans from the Columbia River Front Park to Fisherman’s Wharf just south of Falmouth PA. There is plenty to do along the trail with popular stops including Chiques Rock County Park, Historic Marietta, The East Donegal Riverfront Park, Shocks Mill RR Bridge, and the famous White Cliffs of Conoy. Stop for lunch or a scenic hike, the nature of your trip is up to you.
The trail starts just 5 miles south of our Columbia location with bike shuttles available. You can experience railroad heritage by riding the Enola Low Grade Trail. The crushed gravel trail crosses creeks and streams on historic stone arches and bridges, reveals picturesque views of the Susquehanna River and winds through woodlands and beautiful southern Lancaster County. You will also enjoy the two highlights of the trail which are the newly constructed Trestle Bridges. The first being the Safe Harbor Trestle which stands 140 feet and stretches 1560 feet over the Conestoga River, making it one of the largest in Pennsylvania. Next up would be the Martic Forge Trestle standing nearly 120 feet over the Peque Creek. The view from either bridge shows the beauty of the Susquehanna River.
